As we begin a new year, we often feel a need to make changes and create new positive habits. One great way to nurture that attitude is by changing our physical environment. Out with the old, in with the new, and what better place to start than the closet!

There is something so satisfying about clearing out unused and unworn items. Unless you’re consistently great at managing clutter, this can be a daunting task. While this is certainly not my strong suit, I do know the satisfaction of clearing out unused and unworn clothing. This year I am more motivated than ever because my goal is create a wardrobe I LOVE.

On the surface, this may not seem like a significant suggestion, You may even wonder, how can this increase my vitality? I believe that when you feel confident in your clothing, that confidence translates to overall confidence in the body and mind. When you wear clothing you love you show that confidence.

Clearing out unneeded items can have many positive effects:

  • Completing this task will give you a sense of accomplishment and overall lightness.

  • You can really have a closet that contains items you truly LOVE to wear, which makes getting dressed at anytime so much easier. (Time saver!)

Donated good quality clothing can instill a sense of giving and helpfulness and truly benefits many people. Many charities make good use of your your donations such as The Salvation Army   & Goodwill Industries

Let’s do this!   Start this project on a day when you have time to focus on the task at hand. prepare by grabbing boxes or bags for donation and throwaway  Be thorough and ask your self a couple simple questions with each item: 1) does it fit  2) have I worn this in the last year? 3) does this represent my style (or a new style I would like to adopt) 4) would I buy it again if I was shopping today If the answer is no to any of these questions, place the item in the proper bag or box and move on to the next , after a while it becomes a faster process once you are in the ZONE After you have gone through your entire wardrobe, make one more sweep through quickly to see if there are any obvious missed items I recommend bringing donated items directly to your chosen charity, having them hang around too long may result in items finding there way back into your closet.
